If your vehicle has been around for quite a while and is starting to look a little dated, a paint wash-over can put life back to its faded color. Honda’s wash-over service rates start at Php 24,000 for City and Jazz models, Php 25,000 for the Civic and Php 26,000 for bigger models like the Accord, CR-V and Odyssey. Rates quoted do not cover necessary body repairs.

During the student edition of Honda Challenge Cup, a fuel efficiency driving competition that subjects different Honda models in real-life driving situations while using normal driving styles, the tandem of Joseph Manguiat and Princess dela Paz from the University of the Philippines generated an average of 30.74 km/li with the 1.3 liter City A/T — a remarkable result when you combine a very fuel efficient vehicle with good driving habits. “I was able to pick up a lot of learning from my Honda Challenge Cup experience. To save on fuel, one must simply be patient. Wise use of brakes, gradual and steady acceleration and safe gliding will earn you extra fuel mileage.” said Mr. Manguiat.

In its continuous celebration of over 10,000 City sales, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. recently conducted a test drive activity among the media to relive the winning features of the City that the market has loved.

The third generation City has successfully changed the rules in its class, both in style and in performance, since it entered the local market in January 2009. Bearing modern design, superior performance and enjoyable comfort, the City presents class-leading features that are once reserved for higher models.

Featuring cutting-edge styling, streamlined grille harmonized with sharp headlights and a masculine contour that neatly blends with its over-all refined finish, the City is undeniably a work of art. With this, the itinerary for the test drive activity was specially designed to better appreciate art and the sophisticated styling behind the design of the City. In doing so, the road trip headed towards the art capital of the Philippines, Angono, Rizal, via Laguna loop.

The day started with a test of the powerful performance of the City’s i-VTEC engine along the South Luzon Expressway. With a maximum power output of 120 ps for the 1.5 liter variant and 100 ps for the 1.3 liter variant, the City tackled highway driving with ease. Apart from its ably spirited performance, the i-VTEC engine also delivers fuel efficient driving performance by switching valve timing depending on the driving conditions for better combustion. To further enhance fuel efficiency, the City also comes with 5-speed automatic transmission which helps reduce engine revolution and stress. Meanwhile, fun and easy tracking of one’s fuel consumption is also possible with the fuel economy meter displayed on the instrument panel.

First stop was a comforting lunch at Ugu Bigyan Potter’s Garden in Tiaong, Quezon. Ugu is the town’s celebrated ceramics artist. Part of his garden is a showroom for his pottery creations. He even demonstrated how he lithely crafts his ceramic pieces. His dinnerware sets and decorative pieces are also being used in some of the premier resorts in the country.

The group then headed to Rizal by passing different towns of Laguna. The City’s front McPherson Strut and rear H-shaped torsion beam with stabilizer suspension comfortably handled the winding, moderately uphill and downhill roads in Laguna. With lush green scenery along the way, this test drive activity was also a much-needed breather from the urban jungle.

As the sun began to set, the group finally set foot in Binangonan, Rizal and rested.

Day two proved the Honda City’s agility in handling busy streets as the group went for a city tour around the province of Rizal. The tour of Rizal showed how brilliant the locals were in the field of art. The tour started with a visit to the oldest art work in the Philippines- the Angono Petroglyphs. The Angono Petroglyphs, said to date back in 3000 BC, showed human figures, frogs and lizards engraved on the rock wall. Through the years, erosion may have caused some figures to be indiscernible. Next in the itinerary was a visit to YAB Design. YAB Design produces life-size figurines made of polyester resin. First glimpse to its manufacturing plant can be mistaken into entering a theme park as life-size tyrannosaurus dinosaur and dragon welcome your way. YAB Design export to top brands abroad. Lastly, the tour ended at the Blanco Family Museum. The museum housed the painting collection of national artist, Jose “Pitok” Blanco, his wife and seven children. Under the guidance of Mr. Blanco, the paintings showed the skill improvement of his children through the years.

Driver’s preparation

One must be physically healthy and mentally alert. Stamina, concentration and decisiveness are also required. Before rolling down the road on a long trip, check out the following list to see whether you are really up to the mark.

• Your attire must be sufficiently comfortable. Ladies should avoid wearing high-heels while driving. Shoes with good ventilation are recommended.
• Avoid clothes that are too tight. Pants are probably best for ladies.
• Take along sunglasses that are not too dark, just in case you have to drive through an extremely bright period of the day.

Prepare your car

Take a close look at the following items:

• Under the hood: Check the radiator coolant in the reserve tank, engine oil level, as well as the brake and clutch oil. Make sure that they are at the proper level.
• Outside: Check air pressure of all tires, including spare tire. Follow the tire information label on the driver’s doorrjam. Also check if all lights and horn are in order.
• Arrange the luggage, if any, in an orderly fashion. Those that are moveable while the car is in motion should be secured firmly in place.
• Too much weight could cause serious damage as a result, for instance:

  Damage to the car – the engine has to work harder, thus requiring more fuel and most probably will wear out sooner. The car’s suspension system will also yield sooner as well;

  Car handling – it will take longer distance and more time to bring the car to a complete stop. Its stability will also be adversely affected. If the loads are in the back, the car’s front will lift up and at night throw its headlight beams at cars passing in the opposite direction, which could be fatal. Besides, a car in this condition is difficult to control. It can only move slowly uphill, while its speed downhill can be dangerously too fast.

The Honda Emergency Assistance Team (HEAT) in action

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), readies for the expected influx of motorists this Holy Week by providing on-site road assistance, service and support in different travel destinations through the Honda Emergency Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.) program.

Honda’s annual motorist assistance program called H.E.A.T. is composed of an emergency action team who provides road assistance to motorists encountering problems on their long distance travel in observance of the Holy Week.

“H.E.A.T. is intended for all customers, not just for Honda owners but for other car brands as well,” Mr. Danny Pedro, HCPI’s Senior Assistant Vice President for Parts and Services said. He added, “We, at Honda, want to be your partner for a worry-free and safe trip with H.E.A.T.”

On March 31, April 1, 3 and 4, private and public vehicle owners, Honda and non-Honda customers can receive exclusive services that H.E.A.T. offers from 8AM-5PM.

H.E.A.T. provides free Honda diagnostic system check-up, free 18-point check-up and discounts on selected parts and accessories.

There are twelve (12) HEAT sites for the motorists all over Luzon. These sites are in Baguio, Caltex Nasugbu and Sto.
